Midwives in my opinion are an absolute MUST maternity care option!
A Midwife provides the care for the woman and significantly impacts on her childbearing experiences during the antenatal, labour and birthing stages and the postnatal (post-partum up to 6 weeks) periods.
So, what are the positives to having a Midwife?
They are there for you, they actually care about YOU, your partner and your baby! They genuinely care.
They are experienced in everything birth related, most of the time they have more experience in birthing than doctors and specialists. Midwives generally deliver the baby without any interference from doctors or specialists – YEP!
They are educated to provide Evidence Based Care – this means that they know what is right and when. They will use information provided from your examinations to determine the best care for you and provide these options to you.
They will suggest and use the best current practices.
They will provide endless amounts of information on what choices you want or want to know more about. They will not judge your choice, they will provide choices if you are not sure what you want or what is out there for you.
They will deliver and uphold culturally appropriate options
They will support you in your choices – They are focused on Women Centered Care
You will have the same Midwife throughout your pregnancy and thereafter and will build a confident, supportive relationship with them. The midwife will work together with you continuously throughout your journey
They are multidisciplinary – this means that they have connections to members of other health care practices and specialists in a wide range of fields that they collaborate with to ensure you are receiving the most up to date and relevant care for you and your baby.
Holistic methods
They are 100% confidential
They devote their professional and PERSONAL lives to make sure they are providing the best care for your pregnancy. They love their jobs.
Most of the time you also get their phone numbers so any fleeting hiccups can be answered immediately
Another great option as an addition in Qld there is a company called Midwife Check-in. These midwives will call you regularly to check in! Why not have some added support.
